Course Information
Description The lab provides a hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology. Systems to be studied include endocrine, cardiovascular, immune,
lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance), and reproductive (including human development and genetics).
Prerequisites The lab provides an online learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology. Systems to be studied include endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance), and reproductive (including human development and genetics). Corequisite(s): BIOL 2302. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 2301 and BIOL 2101
Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the general function of the endocrine system including, mechanisms of hormone action, regulation of hormone release, hormone actions, and endocrine glands, and endocrine disorders and treatments. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

2. Demonstrate an understanding of blood composition, blood functions, blood disorders, heart anatomy and function. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3) Measured by embedded questions, and/or assignments.

3. Demonstrates an understanding of the location of the major arteries and veins of the vascular system as well as the function of the circulatory system. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

4. Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and functions of the structures of the GI system, the structure and GI functions of the liver, gall bladder, and pancreas, and the various metabolic and nutritional processes involved in digestion. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

5. Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and functions of the structures of the respiratory, lymphatic, & renal systems. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

6. Demonstrate an understanding of the location and function(s) of the structures of the male and female reproductive structures. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

7. Demonstrate an understanding of reading material including relevant terminology. (PSLO alpha) Measured by pre-post test questions.

8. Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with fellow students to complete group assignments and/or cover assigned material. (PSLO 4) Measured by group assignments in the lab portion of the course.

Textbooks The REQUIRED workbook for the Bio 2101 lab (A&P1) is A Visual Analogy Guide to Human Anatomy, 4th ed., -by Paul A. Krieger. It is published by Morton Publishing. The ISBN for this book is 978-1-61731-624-1.

You will also need a copy of the lecture textbook and Mastering A&P Access code. The textbook is "Human Anatomy & Physiology", 2nd ed by Erin Amerman. The ISBN number for the lecture textbook only is 978-0134-754-239. The ISBN number for the Mastering A&P access code is 978-0-134-78807-4
The Access code can also be purchased directly from Pearson on the Mastering A&P site. Instructions for purchase are posted in the Course Information folder on the course website.
The lecture textbook and Mastering Access code are also available as a bundle in the LSCPA bookstore.

There are Online Pre-lab assignments due before the beginning of Each lab. These Pre-lab assignments are completed on the Pearson Mastering A&P site and are accessed using the link from within the lab course.
The overall average of the grade on the pre-lab assignments will count as 1 lab exam. There are NO MAKE UPS, AND NO EXCUSES FOR NOT COMPLETING THE THE PRE-LAB ASSIGNMENTS.

You MUST be in lab on the date of scheduled lab exams. There are NO excuses for missing a lab exam and there are NO make-ups for lab exams.

Determination of
Final Grade
Each lab exam will count for 18% of your Lab Average.
The average of the Pre-Lab assignments from the Pearson Mastering A&P site will count for 18% of your lab average.
Daily work, quizzes, attendance, and participation in labs will count for 10% of your lab average

No grades are dropped when calculating averages.
Make-ups: No makeup exams are given and there are NO re-takes on any exam. Exams that are not taken during the scheduled availability period will be given a grade of zero.
Course Policies
Instructor Policies Pre-lab assignments are completed on the Pearson Mastering A&P site using the link on the lab website. All pre-lab assignments must be completed before the start of lab. You will access the pre-lab assignments using the same Pearson Mastering A&P access code that you use for lecture.

Any questions regarding exam grades need to be emailed to me from your LSCPA email. I will respond via email. Exam grades are available to you on the course website immediately after completing exams. It is not possible to view your exam after completion unless you make arrangements with me to come to campus to view it.
Attendance Policy Attendance in EVERY lab is required and students will sign in upon entering lab. Anyone entering the lab after instruction has begun will be counted Tardy.
THERE WILL NOT BE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR TO MAKE UP A MISSED LAB OR MISSED LAB EXAM.

Active participation in each lab is expected.
